Primordial Sound Meditation Questions and Answers

Q: Why Meditate

A: We meditate not for any experience that we might have in meditation. We meditate to enjoy our lives more fully and to enrich and enhance our lives.

Q: What is Primordial Sound Meditation?
A: Primordial Sound Meditation is a technique revived by Deepak Chopra MD from the ancient Vedic traditions of India that allows us to take our awareness from the active level of the mind to quieter and quieter levels in the thinking process until eventually we slip beyond thought altogether to a level of pure silence, pure potentiality. When we come out of meditation we bring some of that silence--some of that pure potentiality --out into our everyday lives.

Q: What are the benefits of Primordial Sound Meditation?
A: During Primordial Sound Meditation our minds become quiet allowing our bodies to gain the deep rest necessary to release stress and fatigue. In meditation we re-connect with our essential nature--pure consciousness, pure potentiality. People report that they experience better health and vitality, greater happiness, more restful sleep, more fulfilling relationships, greater enthusiasm for life and an increased sense of love, peace and well-being.

Q: What are Primordial Sounds?
A: They are the most basic, essential sounds of nature such as birds singing, wind blowing through the trees, the sounds of the ocean or rivers to name a few.

Q: Will I need to change my lifestyle?
A:
Primordial Sound Meditation can be learned by people of every age, education, culture and religion. It does not require specific beliefs or a change in behavior or lifestyle. The only change or adjustment we need to make is to allow the time to meditate regularly. Other than that, any changes in our life come spontaneously.

Q: How will meditation affect my health?
A: Meditation is a natural process for restoring balance and harmony in the physiology which helps to re-enliven the body's own healing mechanisms. Many people noticed dramatic improvements in their health.

Today doctors are increasingly citing stress as a major factor in such illnesses as depression, anxiety, high blood pressure, cardiac pain, insomnia, diabetes, ulcers, cold, fever, asthma, arthritis and alcoholism. Even though meditation should not be considered a cure by itself, research has shown that it contributes to reducing stress and achieving deep relaxation and a profound state of rest. By reducing stress, meditation has important benefits for a wide range of health problems, and also allows the mind and body to function with maximum effectiveness

Studies have shown that people who meditate regularly have long term reduction in blood pressure, and reduced use of both prescription and non-prescription drugs.

Q. What will I experience?

A. There are a variety of experiences. You may fall asleep, or have lots of thoughts and trains of thoughts or you may slip beyond thought to levels of peace and silence. All these experiences are correct because the experiences we have in meditation are correct for our  physiology at that particular time. There is no such thing as a good or bad meditation, only correct methodology will produce experiences consistent with the needs of our physiology at the time.

Q Is Primordial Sound Meditation a religion?

A. No. It is a spiritual practice because it takes you to the level of our spirit. Many people from many different religions practice Primordial Sound Meditation without any conflict with their religious practice. Primordial Sound Meditation enables us to enjoy whatever it is we do in our lives more fully and happily--whether it is playing sports, our relationships or our religion.

Q.Will I need to sleep less when I practice meditation

A No, not necessarily. Some people find they sleep less, for others their sleep patterns do not change at all. Sleep eleviates fatigue accumulated during the day, meditation goes to a much deeper level. Meditation helps to relieve the stresses and tension that have accumulated throughout our whole lifestyle.

Q. How will meditation affect my health?

A. It is a natural process for restoring balance and harmony in the physiology. It helps to restore and enliven the body's own healing mechanisms. Many people have experienced dramatic changes in their health situations. However meditation should not be looked at as a cure for a particular health problem and you should not discontinue the advice or medication of a health care practitioner.
